San Clemente celebrates the ‘Greatest Show on Surf’

The end of July, San Clemente will once again be host to the San Clemente Ocean Festival. The two-day event will offer athletic events, a youth pavilion, and youth and family events.

Athletic events will include the SUP Surfing Championships, a one mile swim, a 5k beach run and Dory boat races. Everyone can enter the surfing championships. Judging will be done on style, classic and progressive maneuvers, and paddle use.

A lifeguard competition will have a surf race, surf ski, rescue relay, ironman, paddle board sprint, and two National Doryman’s Association runs.

Beach events will include the 5K Beach Run, Open Ocean Paddle, Biathlon, Run-Swim-Run, SUP Sprint Races, one-mile swim, and a Splash & Dash Relay.

Youth and Family activities will include the pancake breakfast, a woody car exhibit, the Ocean Art Show, and a beach party and concert featuring MoonShine. There will also be a fishing derby, sand sculpting competition, and the Great Rubber Duck Race.

Kids 12 and under will be signing up for the Dolphin run. All participants will receive t-shirts with the festival’s logo design, finisher medals, and goodie bags.

The Youth Pavilion will have games and arts and crafts provided by our Recreation Division, and Hero Nutritional, Clif Kid, and Ocean Institute booths will have interactive activities too. The pavilion will also have an hour long jiu-jitsu demonstration, hula and a mermaid parade.

The festival wil be next weekend, July 21 and 22, all day around San Clemente Pier.
