Roseville to host wiener-based weekend

March 21, 2014 by

This weekend, the Farmers Market and Swap Meet will be inviting all Roseville hotdog connoisseurs to celebrate National Something-on-a-Stick Day by attending Denios Market’s Fifth Annual Corn Dog Contest.

For hungry participants, nothing can compare to four minutes of wolfing down as many of the beloved hotdogs ensconced in cornmeal as possible—all for a mere $10.

The winner of the contest will receive a $200 cash prize, a Corn Dog Contest Winner’s trophy, and bragging rights for an entire year. The runner-up will receive $100, while the third place finisher will get $50.

For more moderate eaters who might feel left out, those with fast-paced dachshunds can enter their pets in one of several Wiener Dog Races. For those whose pooches are more show-off than speed, they can be a part of the Wanna-Be-A-Wiener Dog Costume Parade. The $5 entry fee for each event will go to the Placer County SPCA. The event should be too good for photographers to miss—taking photos for future postcard printing will be a must.

The Farmers Market and Swap Meet begin the festivities at 7:00 am this Saturday, March 22, at Denios Market, 1551 Vineyard Road, Roseville, with the eating contest starting promptly at noon. Contestants need to arrive by 11:15 am. The Wiener Dog Race check-in will be at 10:00 am with the races starting at 11:00 am.
