Pleasant Hill to Light Up the Night

Pleasant Hill will once again usher in the holiday season with the 5th annual Light Up the Night festival taking place next week. Horse-drawn carriages will be seen along Crescent Drive and Christmas characters will greet visitors. Santa, Rudolph, Frosty, and other Christmassy characters will all be in attendance.

Beginning at 5:00 pm on November 28, a variety of fun-filled activities will occur throughout the evening until 8:00 pm. The tree lighting ceremony will be at 6:00 pm. Guests are invited to join Mayor John Hanecak, Santa, and Recreation and Park Board Chair, Dennis Donaghu as they light up this year’s astounding 25-foot Christmas tree. Other activities include caroling, dance performances, free carriage rides and more. Local merchants will also feature a variety of prize giveaways and special discounts.

Holiday events and activities such as the Light Up the Night ceremony in Pleasant Hill offer a number of opportunities to local businesses. Merchants in the hub of the activity are likely to use poster printing, flyer printing, and various other advertising means to announce special deals and promotions in an effort to draw in more customers.

The 2012 Light Up the Night marks the fifth year for the ceremony. Mayor John Hanecak remembered that the first year was somewhat of an impromptu celebration. Lacking a Christmas tree that year, he asked the relatively small group of people that gathered to close their eyes for a few moments and reopen them to view the already lit up trees along Crescent Drive. He recalled that everyone laughed good-naturedly and plans were made to acquire the 25-foot artificial tree that has been used in the ensuing celebrations.
