Christmas Parade and Festival kicks of holiday season

The annual Christmas Parade and Festival in downtown Pacoima, located approximately 5 miles northeast of Panorama City, took place on Saturday, December 1.

This was the 45th year for the parade and festival, and it carried on as usual in spite of the looming threat of rain and storms. Councilman Richard Alarcon kicked off the event with opening remarks at the David Gonzales Recreation Center. He was also joined by Blinky Rodriquez, who served as the Honorary Grand Marshal, and local celebrity, Danny Trejo. The parade traveled through downtown Pacoima and concluded at City Hall, where a small festival was waiting to greet guests. The festival included live music and games. Children at the festival also enjoyed a toy giveaway.

Gibson Mwangi, a Pacoima resident, stated:

“It’s an amazing event during this time of the year. It brings people together.”

Participants in community festivals and parades often incorporate printing services offered by local printing companies. Banner printing or poster printing may be used for floats or other entries in the parade. Organizers of such events may also choose to advertise the event to the community through flyer printing and special banners placed throughout the community leading up to the festivities.

Danny Trejo, who served as the grand marshal of the parade in 2010, is a local celebrity known primarily for his rough character roles in movies such as ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’, ‘Machete’, and ‘Con Air’. A mural in his honor can be seen at 13405 Van Nuys Boulevard.
