Oakland area event to explore local edible and medicinal plants

A variety of edible plants can be found in right in the Oakland area, and those who participate in a walk that has been planned for Redwood Regional Park will have a chance to learn more about them

The early spring walk will follow easy trails that are lined with ferns, redwoods, and a variety of other plants. It will not be a strenuous outing, and all are welcome.

As the walkers enjoy the stroll, they will learn how to identify the different plants they see, and also their culinary and medicinal uses. They will also discover some of the folklore and traditions behind their use and the role they play in the ecology of the area. There will be time to socialize, and the occasion has been planned to be both fun and educational.

Anyone who would like to be included in the activity has been asked by the organizer to register ahead of time, and the fee to do so will be based on a sliding scale. The participants can pay what they feel is fair or what they are able to. Promotional products for an outing like this can be supplied by an area printer.

The Afternoon Wild Herb Ramble: Redwod Park has been planned for April 20, and it is scheduled to run for two hours. Both further details and an opportunity to register can be found on the activity’s event listing.
