Water everywhere in Long Beach

Long Beach has a range of ways to enjoy the summer, starting with a boat party tomorrow.

Tomorrow evening, locals can escape the heat and party on the water at the 3rd Bachata and Salsa Boat Party aboard the Grand Romance Riverboat, 200 Aquarium Way, Long Beach.

Beginning at 8:00 pm, the cruise will depart from Rainbow Harbor. Boarding takes place 30 minutes before departure and tickets are $30. For more information, call (888) 833-4893.

People can then explore water life further with an exhibit of digitally enhanced photographs of marine life taken by Dr. Edith Widder and altered Dr. Steve Bernstein.

The photographs of ocean life, including squid and jellyfish, are printed on aluminum to enhance their colors and will be on display at the Aquarium of the Pacific at Long Beach through the month of August.

Widder will also lecture offer a lecture on ‘The Kraken Revealed: The story behind finding the giant squid’ on August 27 at the aquarium. Besides being a photographer, Widder is also an oceanographer, deep sea explorer, marine biologist, and cofounder of the Ocean Research and Conservation Association (OCRA).

The aquarium also offers a summer camp for kids in grades 2 – 4 from July 29 to August 2, 2013. Children must be at least seven years old to participate, regardless of what grade they are in.

Full day camp runs from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday and half-day camp is 8:00 am to 12:00 pm or 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm Flyer printing is one way businesses can keep in touch with parents and students and let them know about upcoming events in the community.
