Weekend festival worth Czeching out

The Saint Wenceslaus Czech Festival is about to take place for three days. It is presented by the Orinda/Tabor Sister City Foundation and Sokol SF.

The first event of the festival will be an opening ceremony and the rededication of the linden tree in Orinda Community Park. This will be followed by a formal dinner with a cash bar. The dinner will be held at Quarry House and is set to feature many Czech Republic VIPs including Maria Chatardova. Entertainment will be provided by Muzicka from Prague. Tickets are $100 each.

The next day is a Day in the Park at Orinda Community Park. There will be plenty of cultural displays and performances, traditional Czech food, and children’s activities. There will also be classes in Easter egg decorating and dough ornament making, an evening movie, and storytelling sessions. Vendors will also be on hand to sell a variety of Czech-related items.

The last day will feature a closing concert featuring a symphony from the East Bay. It will be held at the Library auditorium and a $20 donation is suggested.

It is likely that organizers will be investing in printed products such as brochures for advertising that can be quickly and inexpensively distributed to communities in the area such as Lafayette.

The Saint Wenceslaus Czech Festival will be held in various locations in Orinda from September 29 to October 1. To learn more, visit the official website.
