Anyone interested in becoming an independent consultant will want to attend the workshop at taking place next week at the Popup Hood & Hub, 1423 Broadway in Oakland, right next door to Lafayette.

The interactive ‘Starting/Growing Independent Consulting Workshop’ workshop will teach people the ins and outs of becoming a consultant. Topics to be covered will include how to get started, self-marketing, growing the business, and whether or not this field is a good fit.

The workshop is free to members and $20 for nonmembers. The instructor is Sam Burd, who has been an independent consultant for years and a lecturer at UC Berkeley. It begins at noon next Wednesday, August 7.

For those who are not tempted by consultancy, a workshop on “Getting hired: how to get a job in product management” will be held at 6:30 pm on the same day at GA on 414 Brannan Street in San Francisco.

This workshop will teach participants how to land their dream job in this competitive field and offer interview tips. Ideal candidates will be former bankers, consultants, MBA students, entrepreneurs, and engineers.

Participants will learn what is expected in this field, how to ace the interview, and what tech startups are looking for. Those who attend should bring a laptop and be prepared to answer some questions about the sector.

One excellent way to stay in touch with fellow students and instructors is through the use of modern digital business cards.
