Weekend to see two science showdowns

The 3rd annual 2013 Urban Youth Technology Fair will be held this weekend at Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles, just 30 minutes from La Palma.

Presented by the C3 Foundation, it will give young people the opportunity to expand their knowledge and widen their job opportunities by learning about the latest advances in science and technology.

Activities at the fair will include a science competition, a car show, a live concert, and plenty of food. There will also be guest speakers in a panel discussion.

On the same topic, East Los Angeles College will have a class on technology and logistics at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 17, and at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 21. The school is located at 1301 Avenida Cesar Chavez in Monterey Park.

College credits will be earned for this class, which prepares workers for logistics, transportation and supply jobs. This class is designed to upgrade the skills of those currently in the workforce and give them something to add to their digital business cards .

Certification exams and course materials are available to students free of charge, thanks to a grant from the Department of Labor.

Topics will include databases and spreadsheets, routing software, global positioning satellite applications, business writing, customer service, and supervising. For more information on the class, call (323)265-8954.
