Quarry Turkey to flap past Fremont

November 17, 2012 by

The elusive Quarry Turkey will join racers on the Saturday after Thanksgiving to raise food for the Alameda County Food Bank.

Events will include a half marathon, 10K, 5K, and Little Turkey’s race. Racers are encouraged to bring a can of non-perishable food for donation to the food bank. The Little Turkey’s race is only 100 yards long and perfect for children. Best of all, that particular race is free. Watch out for the Quarry Turkey as he competes against the kids.

All races will start and finish at the Quarry Lakes Recreational Area in Fremont, with longer races traveling along Alameda Creek. Most of the race route is flat.

Everyone who finishes receives a medal and shirt. Free shoes courtesy of Road Runner Sports of Campbell will be given to the winners of each race and group medals will be awarded to first, second, and third place in each age group.

Races begin at 7:35 am with the Little Turkeys Race, with the full breakdown of times listed on the event’s website. Courses will be marked with signs – perhaps produced by a local printing company – as well as flour and ribbons, with volunteers at key locations to direct runners.

Parking is available at the Quarry Lakes Recreation for $5. Aid stations will be stocked with water and snacks but runners may want to bring their own water bottles as well. Restrooms are located in the recreational area, with a few along the course.
