El Cajon invites locals to truck parade

December 7, 2018 by

For the 42nd year, the East County Fire Truck Toy Parade is coming to El Cajon.

Heartland Fire and other fire departments in the East County will be parading through the city with their engines loaded with toys.

The East County Toy and Food Drive was begun in 1976 and is in support of the Salvation Army. Today, it is one of San Diego County’s largest and oldest food and toy drives.

There will be approximately a dozen fire trucks taking part in the parade, which starts from Fire Station #6 on East Lexington, and moves to the parking lot at the Target on Broadway. KOGO-AM News Radio 600, a San Diego station, will remotely broadcast the event live. Ted Garcia, LaDona Harvey, and Cliff Albert, all from KOGO, will be on hand to collect the toy donations, which will go to families in the East County, and the El Cajon Salvation Army.

There is still time for people who would like to do so to donate toys. They can drop off items at the headquarters of any of the fire departments in the East County during normal business hours, or bring their toy donation to the parade. Organizers of events like this can use poster printing to identify drop-off points for the items.

The event is scheduled for tomorrow, December 8, from 9:00 am until noon. The engines leave the fire house at 10:45 am, and should arrive at Target by 11:00 am.
