Walkers raise funds in Dana Point

On Saturday, May 19, the “A Mile for Maddie” event took place at the Strand Beach Parking Lot located at Selva St and PCH in Dana Point, California. The charity walk was in fact just over a mile long, measuring at 1.2 miles, and attracted a range of big-name sponsors.

A Mile for Maddie is a benefit fundraising walk with the proceeds going to the Maddie James Foundation, which was set up last year by the parents of five-year-old Maddie, who tragically passed away as a result of a brain tumor. The walk took place along a scenic and beautiful new trail created along the stand beach. A portion of this trail overlooks the future home of the Maddie James Seaside Learning Center, which is supported by the charity because the Ocean Institute was one of her favorite places. Walkers were offered refreshments, lots of live musical entertainment, how-to crafts, several fun activities for the entire family, and self-guided tours through the Pilgrim, which is a full size replica of a three-mast schooner from the early 19th century.

The event aimed to raise $50,000 dollars for the Maddie James Foundation but this target was smashed as a massive $82,977 was generated by those who partook in the walk. The event, and the charity behind it, may have benefited from poster and flyer printing services, increasing awareness of the walk and the reasons behind it.
