Annual KGET holiday food drive November 14

November 5, 2012 by

This month, KGET’s annual food drive will again benefit the Community Action Partnership of Kern (CAPK).

The CAPK food bank feeds over 10,000 families each month. Monetary donations are also accepted and go a long way in feeding the hungry. Just $1 will purchase nine pounds of food. A donation of $20 will feed up to 15 families and a donation of $100 will feed up to 75 families.

The food bank provides emergency food to families in Kern County and the food is provided through private, public and government donations.

Established in 1983, the food bank’s mission is to help alleviate the lack of food in the homes of low income Kern County residents. They have several programs that they operate besides the emergency food assistance program, which include the Back Pack Buddy Program that provides food to low-income kids over the weekend, a Student Run Pantry, and Snack Attack – providing healthy food to students through after school programs.

The Optimal Hospice Care Holiday Food Drive will be operating through the end of the year. People may donate non-perishable food items, monetary gifts, or gift cards for grocery stores, and place them in donation boxes located at the Optimal Hospice Office, 1675 Chester Avenue, Suite 401, Bakersfield, California.

The event will be held from 5:00 am – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, November 14 2012 across from the KGET studios on the corner of 22nd and M in Bakersfield. For more information call (661) 716-4000. Use a print company to let businesses and neighbors know about local food drives.
