Cypress gets in the SPIRIT of things

Last week, more people in Anaheim and the surrounding areas became acquainted with Dr. John Shepard as he participated in a workshop titled ‘How to Deal with Difficult People’. The workshop was sponsored by the City of Cypress’ SPIRIT Program and held as that organization’s quarterly event on July 9 from 9:00 am till noon.

With 30 years of experience in psychology, Dr. Shepard is an expert in leadership development, motivation, and employee involvement. Shepard has had articles published in several journals and assisted manufacturing and service businesses with as little 50 and as many as 10,000 employees. He has trained personnel from the hourly worker up to company CEOs, and is a much sought-after speaker.

Corporations pay for tutelage similar to what attendees of the SPIRIT workshop received. Just as Dr. Shepard has instructed companies on developing strategic and succession plans, he instructed his audience on the Tuesday on developing an effective means of maintaining a productive work environment regardless of the personalities involved.

Attendees of the workshop were given tools for managing stress and dealing with the various personality types they may encounter when interacting with bosses and co-workers as well as internal and external customers. Any participant with a managerial position or a job in human resources would do well to have taken notes and ordered a poster printing of ‘sound bites’ from Dr. Shepard’s lecture to share with other employees and take back to the work place for future usage.
