Family friendly hike planned for Bend

A day of fresh air and exercise will soon be on offer for Bend families, and anyone who is interested in spending a day hiking with their kids at Chimney Rock is welcome to participate.

Author Wendy Gorton will be joining in the occasion, and she will lead the hike through a doorway of juniper. The hikers can also enjoy views of Crooked River, visit Echo Bench and snap a family photo when they reach Chimney Rock.

As the hikers proceed up the trial, they will be invited to take part in a mini scavenger hunt and observe the wildlife they encounter along the way. They can also draw or write about their experience in a nature journal, and some free games will also be on offer. At the end of the day, a copy of ‘50 Hikes with Kids: Oregon and Washington’ will be raffled off. Maps and other items for this type of family friendly occasion can be provided by local stationery printers.

The organizers of the activity noted that the difficulty level of the hike will be moderate, but they expect it will be doable by all the kids and there will be lots of stops for water. It has been planned for June 10, will start out from 50 SW Bond Street in Bend, and is being offered free of charge.
