Bend area event to celebrate native plant gardening

June 3, 2017 by

More and more people from Bend are discovering the joys of native plant gardening, and the Sunriver Nature Center has planned an event that can help them to make their gardens even more beautiful.

The Sunriver Nature Center will be playing host to a day dedicated to the beauty of wildflowers and native plants. Those who come out will have an opportunity to view the hundreds of colorful plants that will be on display, and they will even be able to buy some to take home with them. Attention will also be paid to native fungi, lichens, and mosses, as well as Oregon’s native shrubs, grasses, sages, and more.

The weekend-long celebration of central Oregon’s flora will include guided wildlife hikes, as well as lectures on the subject of the plants that can be found in the state. A vendor’s area will be set up for attendees to browse through, and an assortment of other activities have also been planned for the two-day festivity. Brochures that give more information about the benefits of native planting can be prepared for distribution during an event such as this by a local printing company.

The Central Oregon Wildflower Show has been planned for July 1 and 2 at the Sunriver Nature Center and Observatory, which is located at 57254 River Road in Sunriver. More information, and a chance to register to take part ahead of time, can be found on the center’s website.
