Bellerose eats, votes, and funds SOUP

March 6, 2018 by

The Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring Queens SOUP 2018 – a bellerose area community dinner to raise funds for micro-grants for neighborhood improvement projects.

This will be a potluck dinner that will provide promotional opportunities and seed funding for civic engagement programs and innovative grassroots economic development. For $5, guests can enjoy the dinner, learn about the organization’s mission and recent success stories, and vote for one of the four projects that they think will have the most impact on the community. At the end of the evening the votes will be tallied, and the money people paid when they entered the event will go to the winning project.

This year’s four projects have already been chosen. The first one is the Flushing CSAs Community Cook-Off and Food Festival. Another is Plaza Plays, where two local playwrights will be chosen to write plays specifically for the two Queens public plazas, where they will be performed. Latimer House and Child Center is interested in a Summer Tinker Lab, and the last project is the Open the Door where 50 Queens residents will receive cameras to capture daily life.

This will be an opportunity for representatives of local print shops and printing services to network with other community leaders and companies. Many are matching funds, donating raffle items, and offering giveaways, supplies, and food.

Queens SOUP will be April 15 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Flushing Meeting House, 137-16 Northern Blvd., Flushing.
