Training opportunity planned for Orland Park EMS personnel

January 15, 2018 by

Knowing how to manage airway issues can sometimes make a huge difference in an emergency situation, and pre-hospital first responders from Orland Park will soon have a chance to sharpen their skills in this area.

The eight-hour workshop will be fast-paced, and will provide instruction in both Suction Assisted Laryngoscopy and Airway Decontamination (SALAD) and video laryngoscopy techniques. This will be conducted through a series of short lectures, which will be followed by hands-on learning, making it an educational experience.

The organizers of the function noted that it will be suitable for both new and experienced EMSs, and most of the students who participate will be able to engage in 30 intubations during their time in the class. They went on to say that the instructors will create realistic scenarios, which will help the attendees become more skilled in life saving techniques.

There is no fee being charged to register for the class, and it will be held in the Orland Fire Protection District Command Training Center. It will begin at 8:30 am and wind up at 4:30 pm. Training manuals and other learning materials for this type of course can be produced by an area print company that offers binding services.

February 8 will be the date for the Call Management for Difficult Airway short course. The Orland Fire Protection District’s website can be consulted for more information about the function.
