Scottish showdown coming to Alexandria

November 2, 2013 by

The Saint Andrew’s Society of Washington, D.C. and the City of Alexandria are presenting a weekend of activities in a few weeks, aimed at celebrating the Scottish ancestry of many in the community.

The first event to take place will be the 43rd Scottish Walk Parade, which raises funds for the Campagna Centre as it travels along St. Asaph and Wolfe Streets. This has been named one of the South’s top 20 events on more than one occasion by the Southeast Tourism Society, bringing in over 30,000 spectators every year. The parade is set to feature over 100 Scottish clans, marching bands, dancers, and, of course, Santa Claus.

After the parade there will be a series of activities, including a Christmas Marketplace at the George Washington Masonic Memorial, a selection of garlands and wreaths for sale, and a Deck the Halls with Santa children’s party. The ‘Taste of Scotland’ will allow guests to sample Scottish food and whisky .

Booths are available at the marketplace for $300 and vendors will likely be selling a variety of Scottish-related merchandise and Christmas decorations. Many of those participating in any of the events might be interested in investing in printing services, such as sign and banner printing from Alexandria printing companies.

The Scottish Walk Parade and Weekend will begin at 11:00 am on December 7 in Old Town Alexandria. Tickets for the Deck the Halls with Santa party are $35 for adults and $20 for children, while the Taste of Scotland is $110 for general admission and $180 for the patron pub.
