Astoria goes full steam ahead

August 1, 2017 by

The 2017 Astoria Regatta will be coming in a few days. The event will be five days of sailboat races, land and boat parades, live entertainment, food, traditions, and fireworks.

To kick off the festivities, there will be a Queen’s Luncheon to say farewell to last year’s Queen Aubrey McMahan, which will take place at the Astoria Golf and Country Club. Later that evening the 2017 Regatta Queen’s Coronation will be at the Liberty Theater.

The Astoria-Warrenton Kiwanis will be hosting the Astoria Regatta Junior Parade again this year. Kids from around our area will be marching through downtown Astoria early in the evening. Proud parents and friends may want to bring banners to wave along the route to support their little ones. Later that night will be a BBQ and movie in Warrenton.

The Seamen’s Memorial will be presented in Astoria’s Maritime Memorial Park. There the US Coast Guard will honor both those all those who worked in the maritime industry. The Admiral’s Reception will be that evening, with local restaurants supplying the appetizers.

Saturday will have a barbeque, live entertainment and a kids’ fun zone. At noon, the Regatta Garand Land Parade will step off.

This year’s Regatta concert will be presented by the Columbia River Symphony.

The regatta is scheduled from August 9 through 13. Activities will be at various places throughout Astoria, so anyone interested will want to check the event’s website for times and locations.
