Astoria gets an early start on Independence Day celebrations

June 24, 2017 by

Astoria will be getting an early start celebrating Independence Day, but the Borough of Queens will have several events on the day itself.

The 2017 Independence Celebration will be held at the end of this month, and is a presentation by the Central Astoria Local Development Coalition.

The evening will start off with a performance by the Queen’s Symphony Orchestra and will conclude with a Gucci fireworks display over the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge. No doubt guests will be urged to bring their own chairs or blankets.

The celebrations continue with Omar’s 4th of July Block Party at nearby Fantasy Forest. It will feature magic shows, a DJ, a dance contest, and games. As usual, the main draw will be the carousel and the other amusement rides. Admission to the party is free, but there is a cost of $3.50 each for the rides.

Residents of Astoria will no doubt hear about these upcoming events from flyers distributed in the community.

The Independence Celebration will be held on the Astoria Park Lawn on Thursday, June 29 from 7:30 to 9:40 PM. To learn more, contact the Central Astoria Local Development Coalition at 718-728-7820.

Omar’s 4th of July Block Party will be held at Fantasy Forest Amusement Park on July 4 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM. Call 718-788-2676 for more information.
