Engineering professor receives special award

February 24, 2017 by

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) recently honored assistant professor of Civil Engineering, James Kaklamanos, of Merrimack College in North Andover as one of its 10 New Faces of Civil Engineering around the world for 2017.

The New Faces of Civil Engineering program highlights the achievements of leaders in civil engineering under the age of 30 for either their professional or collegiate contributions. The ASCE is recognizing Kaklamanos for his work with students in the professional category.

Kaklamanos philosophy of teaching is to promote a great deal of student-faculty interaction both inside and outside the classroom while providing a comprehensive approach to engineering education as he asks students to apply the principles of engineering to real-world problems. His students, who come from North Andover, Andover, and the surrounding communities, find his teaching style to be challenging and engaging.

As an educator in the field of engineering, Kaklamanos feels he is able to help students discover their passions and interests in the field so they will be inspired to pursue careers in engineering. He is able to share his knowledge and generate new knowledge as well.

The college might benefit from the assistance of a local printing company to advertise this honor bestowed not only on Kaklamanos but as representative of the college as well by creating flyers about it that can be distributed throughout the college community.
