Andover school presents concert trifecta

Phillips Academy in Andover will be presenting three concerts this month with music to suit the tastes of a variety of listeners.

The first concert will be ofBaroque music sponsored by the Abbot Academy Fund. Period instruments will be used for the performance, and one of the featured pieces is the Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 in F major by Bach.

The Baroque oboist, Alison Gangler, who has performed and recorded with chamber music ensembles and chamber orchestras, with be among the soloists. Violinist Lisa Brooke, who currently teaches violin at Salem State University, will also perform, as will Andrus Madsen, a performer of the fortepiano, harpsichord clavichord, and organ.

There will be a senior soloist concert too, at which attendees will hear Dvořák’s Violin Concerto in A minor, Op. 53; a Poem for Flute and Piano by Charles T. Griffes; and Vaughan Williams’ Oboe Concerto in A minor.

A concert by Solar Winds will be the third show. Performed will be works by Valerie Coleman, Janacek, Mussorgsky, and John Armstrong.

The Baroque concert will be at 7:30 pm on Friday, January 19. The senior soloist concert will follow at 7:30 pm on Saturday, January 20, and the Solar Winds concert will be at 3:00 pm on Sunday, January 21.

Flyers can be used to attract people in the community to concerts like these, especially if they are designed to offer different styles of music.
