Birmingham Audubon event hosts bird enthusiast event

March 2, 2018 by

A local bird conservation group has arranged a tour of nearby Ebenezer Swamp for anyone who would like to view the diversity of wild birds in the nature area.

Birmingham Audubon is a local certified chapter of the National Audubon Society and has been in operation since 1946. The group offers numerous events around central Alabama that allow birders to tour local habitats and learn more about the species that make their home in the state. The walks are a great opportunity to get some amazing photos of regional birds for poster printing and personal collections.

This time the group will tour Ebenezer Swamp, a 60-acre preserve that includes a combination of forest and wetlands. The latest bird report of the swamp counted 139 species in the area. Registration is free, and attempts are made to comfortably accommodate any registered guests with accessibility issues. Please contact the Outreach director by email or call the trip leader, Susan Barrow, at (205)253-8667.

All participants are asked to supply their own water, snacks, and outdoor gear. This includes sunblock, seasonally appropriate clothing and shoes and insect repellant. All vehicles should have a full tank of gas. Please plan to meet at the McDonald’s restaurant located at 205 South Colonial Drive (US 31) in Alabaster at 7:00 am on March 3rd. The location is found off I-65 exit 238. The event lasts from 7:00 am until noon.
