Alabaster residents asked to donate to special clothing drive

The University of Montevallo, just 11 miles from Alabaster, is accepting donations for its annual Dress for Success event.

The organizers of the event wanted to make certain that the inability to obtain clothing did not stop a qualified individual from starting their career. The event also helps students to understand the importance of giving interviewers and others the right first impression. Just as people need to spend time and money on preparing résumés and business card printing, they also need to think about the impact they make with their attire.

Clothing donations are now being accepted until March 5. The group is accepting men’s and women’s business-appropriate attire as well as shoes, belts, and ties. The University will host the event on March 16 and any student that lacks the finances to furnish themselves with work clothing or an outfit for a job interview is invited to attend.

Dress for Success is the combined effort of the Career Development Center, Phi Chi Theta business fraternity, and the UM Office of Service Learning. It is the third event of this type at the school. More than 80 students sought out the perfect career outfit for themselves during the last event in 2016.

Donations should be brought to 845 Valley Street in Montevallo between the hours of 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Donors should bring the donations to the Global Community and Outreach Building, although pickups are also available by contacting Dr. Aimee Mellon at amellon@montevallo.edu.
