Arlington area commemorates King

January 4, 2019 by

Arlington’s 50th Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute will be presented in a few weeks into January.

Christian Keyes will host ‘Dr. King’s Dream: A Legacy Performed’. Keyes is starring in the BET legal drama ‘In Contempt’, having previously starred in the Bounce Network’s ‘Saints and Sinners’. He is also well-known for his recurring roles in ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ and ‘Supernatural’.

Soothing soul artist Jackie Pate will be the soloist, along with local performer Joy Gardner and the voices of the Hoffman Boston All-Star Chorus. The chorus is composed of 3rd through 5th graders under the direction of Molly Haines. Audrey Perkins, the Outspoken Poetress, will speak and the Inspire Arts Collective LLC will perform a dance routine.

Winners from the APS MLK Literary and Visual Arts Contest will be announced. The contest is held annually for Arlington Public Schools students from kindergarten through 12th grade. The topic this year is how to make community dreams come true, and contestants were invited to portray this through visual arts and writing. Three awards will be given in four age categories.

Events such as this can always use some advertising help in the form of flyer printing or possibly poster printing. The Tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. is scheduled for January 20 from 5:00 to 6:30 pm at the Wakefield High School Theater, 1325 S. Dinwiddie Street.
