Colchester has eyes on summer fun run

Advance celebration plans are underway in Colchester for a 5K run taking place this summer.

The 5K Fun Run will also feature the annual parade that proceeds from Main Street to Creek Farm Plaza and ending at Burnham Memorial Library.

The run will commence at Union Memorial School. The Colchester-Milton Rotary, along with the Lions, will hold a food drive to build the community Food Shelf. Participants are asked to bring at least one nonperishable food item to the event.

Music, along with food concessions, will be located at Bayside Park. Vendors often contract with local print shops to handle banner printing for their individual spaces. Banners also work well as directional signage for attendees and runners.

To mark the end of the day, fireworks will take place at dusk, launched over the softball field. Light refreshments will be available after the race for the participants.

The 5K Fun Run will take place on Independence Day, July 4, beginning with registration at 7:30 am. At 8:00 am, various participating groups will be scheduled throughout the morning. Lifeguards will be on duty at the Bayside Beach and the paddle sports store will be open throughout the event. The fee is $5 per person, and free parking is available at the Colchester High School as well as the Colchester Middle School.
