Redding will keep fit this coming year starting New Year’s Day.

The Redding Recreation Polar Bear Plunge 2019 will be open to all ages. Along with the 50-meter plunge will be contests including Biggest Polar Bear Splash, Best Polar Bear Hat, Oldest and Youngest Polar Bear. Prizes will be awarded.

Registration has three options. The regular one will be $8. The Second one will be $25 and will include the plunge, goodie bag and commemorative scarf with the event’s logo design. The third option will be $45 and adds a sweatshirt.

For runners, the Clikapudi Trail Runs will also be taking place on New Year’s Day. The event will feature a 5k, 10 k and half marathon (13.1 miles). The run will be along scenic Shasta Lake and at this time of year the trail usually has little waterfalls and winter fowl sightings. Odell Craft Barbeque will be offering pulled pork, chicken and veggie burgers at the finish line. The event has long sleeve performance shirts each with an event graphic design on front and back available for purchase.

This year’s Polar Bear Plunge will be January 1 at the Redding Aquatic Center starting at noon.

The Clikapudi Trail Runs will begin and end at Jones Valley Public Boat Launch at the Jones Valley Campgrounds. All distances will start at 10 am.
