DART sponsoring art contest for North Texas students

December 14, 2018 by

North Texas students have an opportunity to have their artwork displayed in rail stations, inside trains and buses by way of the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART).

The theme for submissions is ‘My Next Stop is ______’, and North Texas students have until January 25, 2019 to enter their artwork. The Dallas Museum of Art, Courtyard Theater in Plano, Love Field Airport, and on DART’s website are among the sites that will be displaying winning artwork.

Among the requirements for entrees is that the design should be an original creation of the student and that buses or trains in any artwork carry DART’s familiar logo design, and regardless of whether lettering is used as a design element, it must be legible and spelling must be correct.

A news release from DART explained that first place and runners-up of each of the four grade-level category will be awarded prizes. All entries K-12 will be considered for best of show.

The winner in best of show will be awarded $1,000 in cash from Dallas Contemporary in addition to having his or her entry on display on DART buses. The first place winners of high school and 6th – 8th grade categories will also receive cash prices in the amount of $200 and $100 respectively.

The entry period closes at 5:00 pm on January 25; teachers or parents will receive notification no later than February 20, either by email or phone.
