Bellerose area celebrates a creepier Christmas

For an alternative to the ‘all is merry and brightness’ of the holidays, there will be a more sinister side of the season with two days of the haunted attraction Krampus Krismas. This attraction is not suitable for kids under the age of nine.

Krampus, St. Nicholas’s companion, is a mythical holiday beast or ‘Europe’s Evil Twist on Santa’. He warns and punishes naughty children. From November to January, people in the western region of Austria reenact this 1,500 year-old pagan ritual to rid the area of winter ghosts.

The event here in the Bellerose area will be a walkthrough of two floors of Nightmare Before Christmas horror. Guests will be escaping Santa’s little helpers, haunted by the Krampus Ghost and experiencing the thrills and chills of the Kris Kringle Torture Room.

Guests who donate a toy will receive free picture keepsakes. Some of the more daring guests may want to take these pictures to nearby print shops to be used for spine-tingling poster printing.

A Krampus Krismas will be from Saturday, December 22 starting at 5:00 pm, until Monday, December 24 ending at midnight at Heistman’s Asylum at Hall of Fames Studios 89-37 164th Street, Jamaica. Tickets range from $15 to group passes of $175 and should be purchased online. Tickets will be sold at the door only after 11:30 pm.
