Gurnee schedules volunteer fair

Mayor Kristina Kovarik and the Village of Gurnee will host a volunteer fair soon, which will give potential volunteers the chance to meet and talk with representatives from clubs, volunteer groups, and nonprofit organizations from throughout Lake County.

Kovarik began hearing from residents who wanted to become involved in the community but did not know who needed help, and also from organizations who need help. She decided to bring the two sides together, according to an article on the village’s website.

The aim of the fair to see if there’s a “fit” between a group and a person who would like to join and assist with its mission.

Mayor Kovarik said there seemed to be a “disconnect” between people who wanted to help and the organizations looking for assistance. Organizers of events like this could use flyer printing to inform residents of the fair.

People who are interested in learning where they can volunteer are welcome to come and learn about the various organizations, but there is no obligation on them to commit to any. Organizations that would like to participate, however, are required to register. More than 15 organizations are expected to attend.

The fair is scheduled for 4:30 pm until 7:30 pm on Tuesday, December 18, at the Village Hall on North O’Plaine Road in Gurnee, and is open to people of all ages.
