November 23, 2018 by

The Fair Trade Market is coming to Manchester this weekend Those from nearby St. Ann will want to make sure they take advantage of this unique shopping opportunity.

The Fair Trade Market is the largest in the country, with over 3,000 square feet of merchandise from around the world, offering international crafts, unique gifts for the holidays, educational presentations, food samples, and much more. Among the items for sale are handmade jewelry, ornaments, handbags, and accessories.

The premise of the market is that it is a social justice movement in that buyers get high-quality products at affordable prices, with equitable treatment and wages for artisans, farmers, and their communities. It operates under the notion that purchasing products from those in developing countries is a more respectable way to promoting sustainable development than traditional charity.

This is the 16th year for the market. Over the past 15 years, sales from the market have totaled close to $1.4m which means that 372 people were able to support themselves from the proceeds of the market.

The Fair Trade Market will run from today, November 23, through Sunday at the Manchester United Methodist Church. Hours are from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Banner printing companies can be hired to create displays with more information about such events and their causes to encourage people to do some unique shopping for the holiday season.
