Middletown farmers market moves indoors for winter

The Aquidneck Growers Farmers Market held on Saturdays recently announced that for the winter months, it will move inside at Newport Vineyards in Middletown. This will enable those in the community to enjoy locally sourced foods and produce on the island year-round.

There will be 18 vendors at the market every week. Among the offerings will be locally sourced, fresh seafood; artisanal pastries and bread; pasture-raised eggs and meat; and fresh vegetables and fruit. There will also be artisan vendors who will change throughout the winter season. All the products are made or grown locally by the vendors at the market.

Two new vegan vendors have joined the market – Barrett’s Garden, and Sprout and Lentil. Small batch cheese alternatives are offered by Barrett’s Garden, while Sprout and Lentil has burgers, soups, wraps, and other vegan comfort foods.

New to the market is a food-scrap collection program where food waste is collected and then made into compost that can be used in community gardens.

This is the seventh year in which the market is an offering indoor winter option, and it will be open every Saturday from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm throughout the season. Poster and flyer printing companies can be used so that the community becomes aware of such markets and the many fresh products they offer.
