Santa sessions on offer for Loves Park’s special needs families

November 12, 2018 by

For children with special needs, a visit with Santa may be too overwhelming. A special opportunity is on offer for Loves Park families so that all of the area’s kids can join in the fun of this holiday tradition.

The Santa Cares initiative is open to children with all types of challenges, and it will be adjusted so that it can accommodate their special needs. It will offer a calm environment with low lights and noise levels, so that it won’t be too overstimulating for those with sensory processing issues, and families can book a timeslot that will be all their own.

Special needs children, along with their siblings, can spend some time visiting Santa, and families can choose to purchase a photo package if they wish. The timeslots will all be booked before those that are available to the general public, and there will be no fee charged to register for a visit.

Santa will be meeting with his young guests in his home, which has been set up in the space at Center Court. Families who book a time are asked to enter the mall through the JC Penney entrance and then head to Center Court. Local print shops can work with the organizers of this type of occasion to provide copies of social stories and other materials. These can be distributed to parents in the area who plan on taking part to help them prepare their son or daughter to participate.

CherryVale Mall will be offering these sensory-friendly sessions on December 9. Bookings are available between 9:00 am and 11:00 am.
