Fuquay-Varina continues Christmas tradition with tree lighting and parade

November 8, 2018 by

Fuquay-Varina is getting ready for the holiday season with two downtown events.

Holiday Happenings will begin with the annual tree lighting. This year children can visit with Santa after the tree lighting ceremony. Parents can take pictures and still have time to get them to local print shops to get 2018 Christmas cards printed. The ice skating rink will be open and sleigh rides will be available at T.R. Ashworth. Local choral performances will be taking place from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

Spectators at the Annual Fuquay-Varina Christmas parade are invited to bring chairs for adults and blankets for the little ones to sit on the curbs.

Local sponsors will be presenting pre-decorated floats at this year’s parade. Other groups and organizations will be entering floats that they have decorated. Judges will choose winners based on presentations and artistic creativity before the parade starts.

Along with the floats there will be bands, color guards walking units and dance teams.

Due to the ever-growing popularity of the event, the organizers have decided to put the route into reverse. The parade will start at the intersection of Fuquay South Avenue and East Academy Street and end at North Woodrow Street.

Holiday Happening will begin at 6:00 pm, November 29 in the Municipal Parking Lot at Vane and Main Streets.

The Parade will kick off at 3:00 pm on Sunday, December 2 in Historic Downtown Fuquay rain or shine.
