Bellerose raises cheers for cheese

NY Epicurean Events Inc. will be presenting its 4th Annual Great Northeast Cheese Fest early in December.

Artisanal creameries from around the area will be showcasing over 75 different kinds of cheeses, including goat cheeses, triple cremes, sharp Cheddars, and sheep’s milk tommes.

Along with the regional specialties there will be a selection of international cheese, too. Local well-known chefs such as Queens’ Casa del Chef Bistro in Woodside’s Alfonso Zhicay and Long Island City’s Hugue Dufour of M. Wells Steakhouse will be on site creating their unique cheese dishes. A demonstration on making fresh mozzarella will be given by Keste Pizza & Vino’s Roberto Caporuscio.

Wine, beer, and cider will help wash down the cheese and other dairy delights. Other offerings will include Portuguese charcuterie items such as ham, sausage, salami, bacon, galantines, confit, and pates.

Guests will learn about cheese from cheese makers, industry experts, and vendors. These cheese experts and aficionados will have updated business cards for those people wishing to get in touch with them at a later date.

A new twist this year will be the People’s Choice Award where Bellerose attendees and other guests can cast their vote for their cheese of choice.

The 4th Annual Great Northeast Cheese Fest will be Saturday, December 1 from 6:00 until 9:00pm at Flushing Town Hall in Queens.
