Danbury remembers local charities during holiday season

Danbury will not be forgetting local charities during the next few busy holiday weeks.

The Fifth Annual Hometown Heroes Benefit Dinner will take place early in December. This year’s Corporate Philanthropy Award will go to UPS. Mike Greene will receive the Collaborative Award, and seven local area hometown heroes will include Danbury’s David Krafick. Four Emerging Heroes receiving awards will be from Brookfield, New Milford, Ridgefield, and Danbury is represented through Jerfrey Martinez.

Proceeds will go to benefit United Way’s food security initiatives. These include the Groceries on Wheels truck, hungry children’s weekend food backpacks, and the pilot program for healthy savings nutrition incentives.

Lions Charities will be having their annual Danbury Lions Charities Breakfast in mid-December. This fundraiser will benefit the Low Vision support group, eye glasses for children, pediatric eye screenings, Danbury Hospital’s Lions Low Vision Center, and CRIS radio.

Small business owners support events such as these to show their community involvement. Such participation is good PR and can be included as part of their business brochure printing.

The Hometown Heroes Benefit Dinner is scheduled for December 1 from 6:00 to 10:00 pm at the Amber Room Colonnade, 1 Stacey Road. Guests need to RSVP by November 9 and cocktail attire is required.

The Lions Breakfast will be December 12 from 7:30 to 9:00 am at Anthony’s Lake Club, 10 Christopher Columbus Ave. Tickets are $15 per person and this event also requires RSVP.
