New Florence Fire & EMS chief appointed

October 29, 2018 by

Mayor Diane Whalen recently announced Chief Kelly Joe Aylor’s replacement as Florence Fire & EMS Chief to be Scott Knoll, the present assistant chief.

Chief Aylor will be retiring on this Thursday, November 1. His replacement, Knoll, joined the department in 2001 as a firefighter and came up through the ranks. He was promoted to Apparatus Operator and then moved on to Captain and then Battalion Commander before being named Assistant Chief in 2014.

Business card printing often follows closely on the heels of a new position, so Knoll is likely familiar with ordering business cards.

Mayor Whalen expressed confidence in her pick for chief, saying how fortunate the Florence is to be able to promote from within, and that Knoll’s years of experience have prepared him for the position of chief.

For his part, the soon-to-be Florence Fire & EMS Chief is please to be able to step into Chief Aylor’s shoes, saying:

“I am very thankful for this opportunity. I feel extremely fortunate to inherit a department with such high professional standards.”

A Cincinnati native, Knoll is an Elder High School graduate and attended the University of Cincinnati, as well as the National Fire Academy. His first firefighting position was in Delhi Township, which is located in the greater Cincinnati area.

Knoll is married and has three children.
