St. Louis’s beloved Muny announces its 101st season

October 24, 2018 by

The St. Louis Municipal Opera Theatre, which is the largest, and oldest, outdoor musical theater in the country, recently announced its 2019 season.

The upcoming performances at the ‘Muny’ will take place in a renovated theater, since the end of the 2018 season marked the beginning of a multimillion-dollar construction project. Planned improvements include a new stage, a covered area for the orchestra, new lighting, better air circulation, and several upgrades to the backstage area.

There are seven shows planned for next season, ranging from classics to edgier works. They are Paint Your Wagon, Footloose, Cinderella, 1776, Matilda, Guys and Dolls, and Kinky Boots. Paint Your Wagon and Guys and Dolls are well-known standards, and Cinderella is the classic fairy tale. Footloose is based on the popular film starring Kevin Bacon, and 1776 deals with events surrounding the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Matilda is based on the children’s book by Roald Dahl, and Kinky Boots is based on a film that went on to become a play. It opened on Broadway with music by Cyndi Lauper and book by Harvey Fierstein. Kinky Boots will make its regional theater debut at the Muny.

Managers of this type of entertainment can use poster printing to create illuminative displays that advertise the shows, and also make for great collectables.
