Portland claims ‘Best Foodie City’ honor

Wallet Hub has announced what most in Portland would say they already knew – Portland is the ‘Best Foodie City’ in the U.S.

However, this outcome likely comes as surprising news to residents of San Francisco, New York City, and Los Angeles. This is the kind of information that Chambers of Commerce love to include in promotional materials ordered from brochure printing services.

Wallet Hub used 29 criteria to compare 182 cities throughout the country. Among the matters on which the cities were judged were food diversity, quality, affordability, and accessibility. The statistics on food trucks, frozen yogurt, and ice cream shops per capita, as well as wine bars and craft breweries, were also factored into the equation.

At least San Francisco can say it came in second, even if it was not a really close second. A number of other surprises were part of Wallet Hub’s results.

Portland scored number one overall, but digging deeper in the various categories show some interesting findings, such as Portland being tied for 177th place in the cost of beer and wine. New York City and San Francisco tied for first place in the most restaurants per capita category. Texas is apparently the best place to eat home-cooked meals, with four of the top five locations in lowest grocery costs being Texas cities.
