The 2018 Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering and Western Swing Festival is an annual event that celebrates Western heritage.

The Stockyards are the setting for this popular multi-day cowboy event awarded the ‘Best Gathering and Best Family Event’ by American Cowboy Magazine readers. The day includes many contests for cowboys and cowboys-at-heart. The festival includes a wagon train and trail ride from Jacksboro Texas, Western swing dances, and a trappings show.

Contests include a cowboy music and poetry competition, a chuck wagon, and camp competition and rodeo finals for the Ranch Cutting Horse Association. Youth competitions include a poetry contest, a chuck wagon cook-off, and a fiddle contest.

On October 27, the Live Bid Calling Challenge begins at 3:00 pm. All aspiring auctioneers over the age of 18 should get their business cards ready and sign up to compete.

Everyone can attend to watch the contest and bid on the items auctioned. Experts will also offer advice about how to become an auctioneer or how to hire one for an auction. Part of the proceeds from the auction will go to support local charitable causes.

The festival starts at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 26 with events taking place through October 28. Visit the festival website for a list and time for all events. The Stockyards are found at 2501 Rodeo Plaza in downtown Fort Worth.
