Middletown course seeks to make workplaces safer

Forklifts are a common sight in many workplaces, and a course being offered near Middletown will make sure that they will always be used in a safe manner.

The Powered Industrial Truck Train – the Trainer workshop has been prepared so that all companies can have a person on site who can train staff in the safe use of a forklift or other similar vehicle. While it may be most useful to those who will actually do the driving, it will also share tips for how non-drivers can conduct themselves safely in areas where one is in use.

Once a person has successfully undergone the training they will be able to train others, making a workplace OSHA-compliant in this area. Each participant will walk away with an updated ‘train the trainers’ manual and well as an assortment of resources they can use to teach others. They will also receive an operator’s guide and test blanks. A checklist for vehicles, ideas for practical practices exercises, and a certificate of completion and wallet card will also be handed out. All of these items, along with any other printed materials that can enhance a learning activity, can be produced by local print shops.

The group who registers for this event, which will be held on November 6, are asked to arrive at Wallingford’s Hilton Garden Inn Wallingford/Meriden at 8:30 am, which is when the course is scheduled to begin.
