A dozen girls to compete in Miss Hanover Area Pageant

October 10, 2018 by

For half of a century, young women in Hanover have had a chance to win scholarships and funding for their post-secondary education through the Miss Hanover Area Pageant, and that time of year is coming around once more.

Organized by the Jaycees, Hanover Area Junior Chamber, the pageant gives teenage girls in the area a chance to show off their talents and abilities. It is divided into six categories, with each contributing a certain amount to a contestant’s overall score.

Pageant organizers can use brochure printing to let participants know what they will be judged and evaluated on.

The private interview makes up 30% of a contestant’s overall score. Each interview lasts 10 minutes and is designed to get to know a contestant and evaluate how well she is able to make her point.

The talent portion makes up 25% of the score. Each contestant has between 90 and 120 seconds to show off her talent. This year’s contestants will be displaying talents ranging from poetry to dance, and from singing to playing a variety of musical instruments.

The remaining categories include scholastic achievement, evening gown, on-stage questions, and introduction, and are worth between 5% and 20% of a participant’s score.

The pageant will take place on October 22 at 7:00 pm in the New Oxford High School auditorium. Tickets are $12 and will be available at the door or in advance.
