Zoo gets the Halloween shivers

There’s always a lot going on at the Cincinnati Zoo, but during October, the place is especially busy, as the popular HallZOOween event takes place.

The zoo has promised “so much fun, it’s scary” and invites everyone to come and take part in events that are going on all day. Trick-or-treat stations have been set up, though the youngsters need to bring their own bags to collect goodies. Other attractions include the Beauty Shop of Horrors, and Phil Dalton’s Theater of Illusions, with two performances a day. In addition, a Golden Big Boy statue has been hidden in the zoo, and there are clues around to help visitors find him. A prize goes to the person who finds the statue.

Children are encouraged to wear costumes, though they are not required to do so. Adults can join in the fun as well, but in all cases, the costumes have to be family-friendly, and not gory or violent. Adults’ masks cannot cover their faces completely.

Part of the fun is watching animal encounters, such as a Reptile Chat, Tiger Enrichment, and a Cheetah Encounter. Organizers of events like this can use banner printing to create spooky decorations for the event.

Youngsters can ride the Scare-ousel, or the Hogwarts Express for a small additional fee. The rest of the event is free with admission to the zoo.

The HallZOOween is on now, and runs Saturdays and Sundays throughout October, from 12:00 noon until 5:00 pm.
