Coffee shop coming to East Lansing

The Blue Owl Coffee Company is opening a second location in East Lansing, close to the Michigan State University location in East Lansing’s downtown, according to an article in the Lansing State Journal.

Nick Berry, who owns the shop along with Adam Klein and Rich Whitman, said that in spite of its location near the university, the place is not going to be decorated in the team’s colors, have a large letter ‘S’ hanging in the window, or a ‘Sparty’ mascot on the counter. However, Berry says the shop is going to have an East Lansing vibe.

The Blue Owl will open in the premises that once housed the FieldHouse restaurant on Albert Street. Berry says he would like to make the new Blue Owl a place where all East Lansing’s residents feel welcome, not just a student hangout. He says the new coffee shop will be “a Blue Owl for East Lansing.” Owners of new businesses like this can distribute business cards to help build customer awareness.

The shop’s three owners began their business by selling their coffee from a bike in 2016. By April 2017, they were able to open their first location in REO Town, and now they are expanding. The new space is approximately twice as large as the existing REO Town shop.

The owners of the Blue Owl hope to have the shop open sometime in December.
