New awards to celebrate the best of all things Texan

Dallas artisans should take note, as two intrepid Texans have chosen to form the Texas Works Awards to publicly recognize the finest locally crafted items.

Texas celebrates, Chet Garner, the host of The Day Tripper, and Vincent Friedewald, the founder of No. 4 St. James, came up with the idea and together they brought the awards project to fruition. The Texas Works Awards will premier this year with eight categories: Adventures & Outdoors, Apothecary, At Home, Drink, Fashion & Style, Food, Pets & Animals, and Workshop.

Garner and Friedewald partnered with the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Go Texas, which works to support local products and has trademarked its logo design to help identify those products. Friedewald was quoted by CultureMap as saying they hope to inspire people to the extent where they can one day “collaborate as business peers.”

Entries, which have to be based or made within the state, must be submitted by this Friday, September 21 with a $45 entry fee. Semifinalists will be announced October 22, coinciding with the start of People’s Choice voting. The announcement of the grand prize winner will take place on November 26, along with the People’s Choice selection.

At stake is a $10,000 grand prize, an appearance on a new video series by Garner and Friedewald and, of course, bragging rights.
