Wawa to open location in Edison

Shore to Shore Edison, LLC, which operates Wawa gas stations, wants to build a facility in Edison, and the town’s planning board has granted approval to a major site plan. The company will built at Stoney Road and Route 1.

The proposed gas station will have six fuel dispensers with two pumps each. They will be housed beneath a lighted canopy. A retail store comprising about 4,736 square feet was approved as well, along with additional improvements to the site. These include drainage, paving, signage, landscaping, and lighting. Operators of facilities like this can work with a banner printing company to create a banner to decorate the site for a grand opening.

Last year, the board granted Shore to Shore its approval with regard to the company’s conditional use permit and a preliminary site plan. It also received a design waiver/exception and bulk variance, both conveyed as part of a resolution.

The company is also refurbishing a location in North Brunswick, where plans call for razing the present Wawa convenience store, and building a new Wawa facility on Route 27 at the thoroughfare’s intersection with Cozzens Lane. This required the company to obtain a use variance from the North Brunswick Township Zoning Board of Adjustment, which also approved both a preliminary and final site plan. The approval came after the zoning board had denied Shore to Shore’s previous application.
