Stockton to become home to new library and recreation center

A contract worth $1.3m was recently approved by the Stockton City Council that will enable Architectural Nexus, Inc. from Sacramento to design and engineer the Northeast Stockton Library and Recreation Center. The location of the new library on West Lane is close to five acres in size and undeveloped.

There will be a combined reference and circulation desk, special areas for children and teenagers, a learning center, and both group and individual seating sections in the new library section. The recreational area will have a large gymnasium that can also serve as an event center or meeting space, kitchen amenities, and play areas.

The goal is for the design phase to be completed by next summer and a contract for construction awarded in Spring 2020. Late 2020 is when construction is expected to begin, and it should be completed about a year and a half later.

The Strong Communities Initiative, Measure M, will be funding the design and construction of the library. This initiative was approved by voters two years ago.

Architectural Nexus, Inc. was considered to have the best experience designing joint recreation and library facilities among the other eight firms from Stockton to have submitted conceptual designs.

Now the community can be informed of such projects that are ready to get underway, and kept abreast of their progress through various printing services.
