Tempe to become home to new eatery

A new dining concept, CHAR’D Brisket Dogs + Burgers, will be opening in Tempe this month.

Business partners Michael Zimmerman and Jason Jantzen started their venture in the restaurant business in the area with Ahipoki in 2016. At Ahipoki, customers make their own poke bowls in a fast-casual dining experience. There are now 11 locations of the restaurant in Arizona.

The menu at CHAR’D will include hot dogs and brisket hamburgers that are made to order. A mixture of ground chuck and mostly brisket will comprise the burgers. Signature specialties will include a mac-and-cheese burger and a mac-and-cheese hot dog, as well as the restaurant’s version of the Sonoran dog.

The diner will be 1,100 square feet in size and will be part of The Wedge building, which is across from the campus of Arizona State University. There will be 30 seats and, sometimes later in the fall, wine and beer will be served.

Jantzen commented that the restaurant is part of the movement on the West Coast to create and enhance new versions of traditional comfort food. Meals, he says, are made to order, served quickly, and offered in a fun setting.

Various kinds of promotional products can be distributed throughout the community and on college campuses to publicize the opening of such restaurants, including discount coupons.
