Several projects are currently underway in Baton Rouge, with one planned to open this month.

The Courtyard by Marriot in the downtown area is expected to open just in time for the football game between Louisiana Tech and Louisiana State University.

Executive director of the Downtown Development District, Davis Rhorer, commented that the opening date should be close as he saw furniture being moved into the building. The hotel will have 135 rooms and will include a Starbucks. Close to 50 people are expected to work at the hotel once it is fully operational.

Area manager for Hospitality America, Ben Blackwell, expects that the Courtyard Marriott will open between September 18 and September 20. The date of the LSU-Tech game is September 22.

Various kinds of promotional products can be distributed at throughout the community to publicize a hotel’s opening in a new part of town and the many amenities it offers.

One of the other projects is renovation of Riverfront Plaza. There will be new lighting and landscaping, installation of artwork, removing of some concrete, and making the area accessible to those with disabilities.

The other project is the second phase of the Town Square. There will be improvements made to the streetscape, creating a seamless flow for bicyclists and pedestrians, and reconfiguration of some of the streets for improved traffic flow.
